Cedric Benson RB Texas 6’ 215
By: Robert Davis

Cedric Benson has become one of the best college backs in the history of the NCAA during his career at Texas. Entering his senior season, he amassed 3,706 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns. He’s rushed for at least 1,000 yards every year in college, with his totals improving every year. He rushed for 1,053 yards and 12 TD as a freshman, 1,293 and 12 TD as a junior, and 1,360 and 21 TD as a junior. Benson also spent 3 seasons playing minor league baseball with the Dodgers, but gave it up to focus his attention on football.

Cedric Benson has very good tools across the board and looks like he is going to be a very good NFL running back. He runs very hard between the tackles, and has the strength to fight for extra yards. Once he gets through the line, he has the ability to make people miss, and the speed to go the distance. He has also displayed the ability to be a solid receiver out of the backfield. Benson is about as consistent as you can get, and he shows up to play every week.

The biggest problem with Benson is that he has had a lot of carries at Texas. He is going to break the 1,000 carry mark this season, and that is a lot of carries for a young back to have. He has a lot of wear on his body entering the league. While he is an all around talent, he doesn’t really possess any standout skills. He’s got solid size, good speed, good strength, but none of them are spectacular.

Cedric Benson looks a lot like a poor mans Ricky Williams. His running style is similar, he just does not possess the size or strength that Ricky has, nor does he run with as much authority. But you can’t help but see some Ricky in him when he’s running. He looks to be a solid first round pick at this point, and should be one of the first 3 backs off the board.
