Babatunde Oshinowo

NFL Draft News

Babatunde Oshinowo DT 6'2 304 Stanford
By: Robert Davis

Babatunde Oshinowo has been one of the best nose tackles in the country, but that also means he is one of the lesser known players due to the nature of his responsibilities. His first two seasons at Stanford he combined for 48 tackles, 14 for loss, and seven sacks. As a junior, he had 41 tackles, 5.5 for loss, and 3.5 sacks. As a senior he had career highs across the board, finishing with 54 tackles, 10.5 for loss, and 4.5 sacks.

Oshinowo a very active defensive tackle. Taking on constant double teams, he has shown the ability to fight off blockers and still get to the ball. Baba shows the quickness off the snap to get penetration and disrupt plays in the backfield. His ability to hold his ground as a nose tackle is what makes him stand out though. He is a true nose tackle that can man his position and clog the middle.

To play nose tackle in the NFL, Baba will have to pack on a few pounds. At just over 300, he may need to be a little more stout at the point. He also lacks the agility to adjust on the move and make plays up and down the line of scrimmage. He's a take on blockers and straight ahead tackle only.

For a team looking for a nose tackle outside of the first round, Oshinowo may be the best option available, which could raise his value on draft day. He is a player you can place in the middle of a 3-4 alignment and clog interior running lanes, freeing up linebackers to make plays. With his intelligence, work ethic, and talent Oshinowo is a very attractive middle round tackle prospect.
