Gabriel Fulbright

NFL Draft News

Gabriel Fulbright CB New Mexico 5’10 169
By: Robert Davis

Gabriel Fulbright has not gotten much notice on the national level, but he has been one of the better corners in the country the past couple years, being a three-time All Conference selection.. As a sophomore in 2003, Fulbright picked off four passes, and finished the year with 43 tackles on his way to being named All Mountain West. He was again an all conference selection as a junior, after picking off five passes to go along with 37 tackles. Fulbright ended his career with a 1st team All MWC selection after finishing the season with 39 tackles and five interceptions.

Fulbright has excellent cover skills. He’s athletic, he’s quick, and he has the speed to stay on the receiver downfield. Most importantly, he knows how to make plays on the ball. When the ball is in the air, he finds it, and if he can, makes a play on it. Gabe is also very tough and active on the football field. He will not back down from any receiver, and will do whatever it takes to make the play. Fulbright also has experience as a punt returner, and could bring some value there.

The biggest weakness is pretty glaring - Fulbright is very small. He lacks ideal height and bulk at the next level. He has the toughness to play at the next level, but his lack of overall size will definitely hinder him in the NFL. He simply cannot match up with most receivers in the NFL because of his size.

If Gabriel Fulbright were two inches taller, and twenty pounds heavier, he’s a Top 50. He’s got the cover skills, the ball skills, and the toughness to play corner in the NFL. With his lack of size though, he only projects as a nickel corner at the next level. Fulbright grades out as a Day Two prospect, but could find a home in some teams nickel sets.
