Jeff King

NFL Draft News

Jeff King TE 6'5 253 Virginia Tech
By: Robert Davis

Jeff King did not have much of an impact his first two seasons in Blacksburg, but has been one of the better tight ends in the country the past two seasons. As a junior in 2004, King caught 25 balls for 304 yards and four touchdowns on his way to earning All ACC 2nd team honors. This year he again earned 2nd team All Conference honors after catching 26 passes for 292 yards and six touchdowns. King also spent some time playing for the Hokie basketball team.

King has excellent size at the tight end position. He is tall and bulky, and gives his quarterback a huge target to throw to. He is an excellent intermediate threat and will be a solid option in the red zone. As a blocker, he shows the willingness to take on anyone, and gives all he can to keep him at bay. He is a good athlete and also spent time on the basketball team during his collegiate career.

You won't see too many plays downfield made from King. He is excellent in a short area, but doesn't have the speed to get open deep. He shows the willingness as a blocker, but does not adjust well to a combination of moves by the defender. He doesn't standout in any true area, which may hinder how he projects to the next level.

King is a solid all around tight end. There is nothing spectacular about him. He'll never be a big playmaker or an excellent blocker, but he's a guy that you can put on the field and trust that he'll do his job. With the talent at the tight end position this year, King looks more like a mid Day Two pick.
