Stanley McClover

NFL Draft News

Stanley McClover DE 6'2 252 Auburn So.
By: Robert Davis

McClover entered the draft as a draft eligible sophomore. He was only a partial qualifier out of high school, so he was not eligible to play immediately. When he got onto the field a year later, he made his presence felt from the getgo. McClover had 35 tackles, 10 for loss, with 7.5 sacks, while earning Freshman All American honors. As a sophomore this past season, he tallied 31 tackles, 13.5 for loss, and eight sacks.

The one area McClover truly stands out is as a pass rusher. He shows the ability to consistently apply pressure off the edge. His combination of athleticism, quickness, and closing speed make him a major force as a playmaker on the outside. With his obvious physical talent, McClover brings the versatility of playing with his hand down in the 4-3 or in space in the 3-4 defense.

McClover has been a force since he stepped on to the field, but he only has two years experience. He is a work in progress, and has made plays solely off his athleticism and aggressiveness. His lack of size makes him non existent in the running game when he plays with his hand down. He carries the tweener tag at the next level, so he does not have one true position.

Stanley McClover has big time pass rush ability and potential. You don't put up the numbers he did in the SEC without being a big time talent. He may be best suited playing OLB in a 3-4 defense, but he will need some time to adjust at the next level. He should hear his name called at some point on Day One, but he carries excellent value if he lasts until the second day of the draft.
