Tim Jennings

NFL Draft News

Tim Jennings CB 5'8 185 Georgia
By: Robert Davis

Jennings has been a standout in the Bulldog secondary since his freshman season. As a freshman in 2002, Jennings had 32 tackles and three picks from his corner spot. His play was very consistent throughout the rest of his career. In 2003 he finished the season with 45 tackles and an interception. As a junior he posted 37 tackles and two picks. Jennings had his best season as a senior, finishing with career highs across the board: 51 tackles, six for loss, a sack, and four interceptions.

Tim Jennings is an excellent cover corner. He has great quickness and speed, and easily changes direction. He can keep up with any receiver well down the field. He is also feisty, and will not knock down from anyone. He aggressively supports the run and sticks his nose in on the action. He is battle tested, and should be able to compete in the NFL early on.

The only knocks in Jennings' game are his height and overall lack of size. Unfortunately, there is not much he can do about that. He checked out a hair under 5'8 at the combine, and just cannot match up with even average sized wideouts in jump ball situations. Despite his willingness to hit and come towards the line of scrimmage, his lack of size makes him easily blockable, and stronger players can break his tackles.

If Jennings were three inches bigger, he's a first round prospect no question. His cover ability is fantastic, and he should be able to get on the field early as a nickel corner. His upside may end there though. He becomes a liability out wide against bigger, stronger wideouts. For a team looking for a quality third corner, Jennings is the ideal fit. With receivers like Santana Moss and Steve Smith being very successful of late, Jennings is a great player to match up against them. Despite his size, do not be surprised to see him land on the first day.
