New Free Agency Winners and Losers

Kareem Brown DT 6'5 315 Miami

By: Robert Davis

Brown has proven to be a consistent penetrator during his four years in Miami. As a freshman, he had 23 tackles, four for loss, and four sacks. A year later as a sophomore, he had 27 tackles, 9.5 for loss, and five sacks. In 2005, Brown had a career high 46 tackles, 8.5 for loss, and 4.5 sacks. As a senior, he closed out his career with 32 tackles, 10 for loss, with a career high 8.5 for loss.

Brown has a very good blend of talent. He has very good size, is strong, but is also athletic, and is very good at getting into the opponents backfield. He can push defenders aside to control his space. Brown’s best asset has been his ability to penetrate, as he consistently gets into the backfield to disrupt plays. He has a very good burst off the line, and combined with his strength, makes it very tough to stop him from getting initial penetration.

Despite his size and strength, Brown can be pushed around at times. He will try and rely on his physical gifts too often. He does not always stay low when he comes off the line of scrimmage.

Brown has the talent to be an excellent defensive tackle. He does not always display that talent level though. With more emphasis on his down to down consistency coming off the ball, Brown could really blossom on the NFL. He only started for one year, but has always been a force at getting into the backfield. He could go as high as the second round after workouts, but probably hears his name called in the third round at some point.
