New Free Agency Winners and Losers

Kevin Smith RB 6'1 217 Central Florida Jr. 4.60

By: Robert Davis

Smith made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2005, rushing for 1,178 yards and nine touchdowns. As a sophomore a year later he was limited to nine games, but still ran for 934 yards and seven touchdowns while adding 158 yards on 23 receptions.

Smith has been a hit since the first time he stepped on to the field. He has very good quickness, runs tough, and has the speed to break off long runs. He hits the hole quickly, and shows the agility to make defenders miss and get to the outside and into the secondary. Smith has shown the ability to run between the tackles consistently and fall forward upon contact. He has been a workhorse for UCF and has the talent to be a feature back at the next level.

Smith does not appear as big as his listed size, and his size may only be average. He can run between the tackles but he will not pound it up the middle on a consistent basis and push the pile. Although only a true junior, he has taken quite a load on his shoulders carrying the football and the wear and tear may concern some teams.

Smith is a solid back that can do a lot of things on the field. He is not the biggest or fastest back, but he can make plays on a consistent basis and pick up the tough yards when he needs to. He has the all around ability to develop into a starting caliber back. There is quite a bit of depth at the top of the RB class, but Smith could outperform some players selected before him. If he gets out of the third round, he will be a steal.
