New Free Agency Winners and Losers

Red Bryant DT 6'4 318 Texas AM 5.04

By: Robert Davis

Bryant had a solid first season with the Aggies in 2004, finishing the year with 34 tackles, two for loss, and a sack. As a sophomore a year later, he posted totals of 28/4/2. Bryant tore his ACL in the 9th game of the year, finishing with 19 tackles, two for loss, and a sack. He bounced back with a fine senior year, finishing with career highs of 46 tackles, six for loss, and a sack.

Bryant can be a big time run stopper. He is massive, and can clog running lanes with his mere presence. He is strong and combined with his size, makes him a difficult match up in the middle of the defensive line. He commands multiple defenders and shows the ability to hold his ground at the point of attack. Bryant is also a solid athlete for a man his size, and move pretty well on the field.

Bryant has never lived up to his massive potential. He does not always play with the same passion, and he could be deemed an underachiever. He has never been the playmaker his talent suggests he should be.

Red Bryant has the talent to be a top notch nose tackle in the NFL. He will need to show he can play with more intensity on a consistent basis to reach that potential however. Someone looking for interior line help may gamble on him in the second or third round.
