Shawn Crable DE/OLB 6’5 241 Michigan

Crable spent much of his first three seasons in the program learning and developing as he only combined for 21 tackles, four for a loss, and four sacks in two seasons on the field, along with a redshirt season. He broke out last year as a starter, finishing with 37 tackles, 10.5 for loss, and 4.5 sacks on his way to All Big 10 2nd Team honors. Crable had a huge senior year, leading the team with 84 tackles, 26.5 for loss, and 7.5 sacks.

Crable may be the ideal 3-4 OLB prospect. He has the size to take on blockers, to go along with the attacking skills to make plays approaching the line of scrimmage. He is athletic, and has the ability to get into the backfield consistently to disrupt plays.

Crable may be too much of a tweener to fit in a 4-3 defense. He lacks the pure closing speed and change of direction to match up in coverage or to be asked to play in space. As a defensive end, he lacks the bulk to hold up at the point of attack on a consistent basis.

Crable is a talented defender, and may be a player that carries more value to teams that utilize a 3-4 defense. He had a big year this year making plays all over the field, and could have pushed himself into the second round area. Good workouts will have to follow his impressive season, but he is a player that has the potential to make a difference at the next level.
