Arian Foster RB 6'1 224 Tennessee 4.7

By: Robert Davis

Foster became a starter at the mid way point of his freshman season and finished with 879 yards and five touchdowns on the ground to go with 148 yards on 14 receptions. Injuries limited him as a sophomore to just 322 yards and five touchdowns rushing. Foster bounced back with a big junior year, rushing for a career high 1,193 yards and 12 touchdowns, while hauling in 39 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns. His numbers dipped quite a bit as a senior, down to just 570 yards on the ground and one touchdown and 19 catches for 166 yards.

Strengths

Foster is a nice sized tailback that runs well between the tackles. He has a sturdy frame that could possibly carry even more weight at the next level. He is a tough runner that battles for yardage after contact. Foster is a decent athlete that actually shows the ability to cut and make the first defender miss and get upfield to pick up more yardage. He has developed into a solid receiver out of the backfield, displaying the hands needed to be a legit threat in the passing game.

Weaknesses

Foster does not possess any explosive trait to his game. He does not have the quickness or elusiveness to make defenders miss on a consistent basis or the power to run defenders over. He also lacks the long range speed to make big plays in the running game.

Future

Foster is limited as far as being a feature back because he lacks any big play ability to his game. He is the type of player that could provide some tough interior running and some receiving skills, but probably never becomes a full time starter. He had a terrible senior season, but so did the entire Volunteer team aside from safety Eric Berry. He attended the combine but did not run, which is something that will play a big role in his draft stock. He worked out at the San Diego St. Pro day and ran disappointing times of 4.73 and 4.69 at 224lbs. Foster’s stock has been on a steady decline since the start of the year, and he now carries a late round grade but he is a guy that could find a role in the NFL.
