Knowshon Moreno RB 5'11 217 Georgia So 4.63

By: Robert Davis

Moreno redshirted his first season with the Bulldogs, and blew up last year in his first season on the field. As a redshirt freshman, he rushed for 1,334 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding 253 yards on 20 catches out of the backfield on his way to earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors. Moreno avoided a sophomore slump, as he earned All SEC honors while rushing for 1,338 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. He also added 329 yards and a touchdown on 27 receptions.

Strengths

You don’t see too many freshman making an immediate impact in the SEC, so that tells you a little about the toughness and determination Moreno plays with. He runs hard between the tackles, and slips quite a few tackles for a back his size. He is a big play waiting to happen, and that is the best part about his game. He is very quick, and has the shiftiness and balance to make defenders miss and continue marching down the field. Moreno accelerates quickly and has enough speed to run away from defenders when he gets into the open field. Moreno has also been a factor as a receiver, which will be a must for a back of his size to see the field as much as possible.

Weaknesses

Moreno has only average size as far as NFL standards go. He is a tough and willing interior runner, but his body could take a beating between the tackles on a game to game basis. He also lacks the blazing speed to turn the corner and run away from defenders on a consistent basis.

Future

Knowshon Moreno burst onto the scene last year, and quickly became one of the best backs in college football. He is draft eligible as a sophmore because he redshirted his first season in Athens. Despite the average size and speed, Moreno should have a very good NFL career because of his natural running instincts. He surprised some at the combine be weighing in at 217lbs, but his 40 time suffered by only notching a 4.63. He shed seven pounds at his pro day, but still couldn’t break a 4.6 timing. Moreno is in contention to be the top back selected in April, and is a good bet to be taken in the first round. He may not be a true superstar big play threat but Moreno should be a very good starting running back in the NFL.
