Kory Sperry TE 6'6 238 Colorado St. 4.77

By: Robert Davis

Sperry redshirted his first season on campus, which prepared him for a big freshman season in 2005. He hauled in 42 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns that season. As a sophomore a year later, he caught 36 balls for 380 yards and five touchdowns. Sperry was off to a fast start last year, catching ten passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns but was lost for the season with a knee injury in the third game of the year. Sperry bounced back with a solid senior season, catching 38 passes for 492 yards and six touchdowns.

Strengths

Sperry is a very good receiving tight end. He has good size and has the frame to bulk up even more at the next level. He creates a nice target for his quarterback over the middle and has very good hands. Sperry is a solid athlete that has very good balls skills for a tight end. He has the potential to be a quality red zone target because of his ability to go up and get the football.

Weaknesses

Receiving appears to be the only area of the game Sperry wants to be a part of. He lacks the strength to be a factor as a blocker, but he doesn’t show enough effort either. He is one dimensional, and is not a freak athlete nor does he possess the breakaway speed to create mismatches every snap he takes.

Future

Sperry has some talent and could be a very good receiver in the NFL. He must show the desire to work harder and round out his skills. He would be a liability as a blocker until he shows the effort to block and finish blocks, and would be tough to put on the field early in his career. Sperry surprised some in the post season with his movement skills. He ran a respectable 4.77 40 at the combine, and was very fluid in position drills at both the combine and his pro day. His receiving ability should carry over to the NFL but he will have to bulk up and get stronger to see the field.
