We got a good shot at getting somebody we like. Bryan Bulaga saying "Cooper DeJean, IOWA" dream is still on. Speaking of Cooper DeJean his highlights were a bit unconventional. I feel like he freelances quite a bit instead of staying sticky on the receiver. It's fine as long as his instincts are consistently reliable otherwise he will get burned. There was one highlight where he makes a great interception in the corner of the red zone. The QB threw a big one to the corner, DeJean instead staying close and jumping with the WR to disrupt or intercept instead he chose to peel away several meters from the WR whilst the ball was still far away high up in the air and essentially left the WR all alone in the redzone. Had the WR caught the ball DeJean would look so stupid but the ball just missed the receiver by maybe a foot and DeJean was able to make an excellent interception. Great interception but he left the WR all alone unguarded in the redzone to take that risk and that's a big No No for me. He freelanced imo to make that play. Consistently in highlights he doesn't behave or move like a corner. You can see his footspeed and twitchiness isn't quite where you want to see in a corner but it's still good if you want him as a full time safety. He's absolutely a safety who we can move around disguising our coverages and that in itself has great value for defensive coordinators. Because he is unconventional I can see Gute not liking him as much as we Packers fans do. Be ready for us to pass on him again if that happens.

I’ve seen more negative fans comparing this to Reagor and Justin Jefferson which as someone who thought Arnold was #1 I think is a tad ridiculous mitchell was considered #1 by most. Reagor was a complete reach over a consensus better prospect in JJ. arnold was considered better by some but id say the more consistent was Mitchell was the better prospect. But regardless. This isn’t a Reagor situation at all.

Ill say this, I already know fans expectations for Rome's 2024 is going to be way too high. I know you just said he wont get 1000 yards, but the fact that 1000 yards is even being thrown into conversation for a Rookie WR3 is kind of ludicrous He at the very best is going to be the #3 option in a brand new offense for everyone. He may actually be option 4 or 5 for most plays we run. This is absolutely a pick more for the rest of their (Caleb/Rome) careers. But for this year, Im hoping to see some things more than I am worries about his numbers. I want him improve on the things that coukd hold him back, starting with his get off of the jam at the line and turning his college routes to crisp NFL routes. If we are talking about his actual stats, Id hope were talking about 40ish catches for 500+ yards with a handful or so TDs. I know thats not sexy for your #9 overall pick out the gate, but remember he is clearly WR3, and those are pretty solid numbers in that situation, especially on a team that often forgot about the Forward Pass the past two seasons.
